For employers, in terms of employability, human resources challenges include retaining specialized personnel. Employers report a growing demand for professionals in STEM fields, while also valuing candidates' work experience and practical skills. Employers see the importance of ensuring that the content of professional and technical programs is less theoretical and more applied, allowing graduates to gain experience and more easily enter the job market.
Degree accreditation is of medium or low relevance, and prior work experience and other complementary skills such as analytical, research, and digital skills are considered more important. Professional updating and certification are essential to maintain a competitive profile.
Generally speaking, the employer sector values the quality of graduates from public universities, but considers that there are areas that need to be improved, such as: regionalized offerings, certification of practical knowledge, bilingualism, partnerships with institutions and companies to promote student employment, ongoing participation in local development networks, greater contact with employers, and better use of inter-university resources to generate joint initiatives.
Overall, the study is conclusive regarding the need to act to gradually reduce the unemployment rate among UNED students and graduates. It is necessary to adapt university education to the needs of the labor market and foster links between universities and companies |
