Abstract: In Costa Rica the third largest industry is plastics, it is averaged that approximately 550 tons of it are discarded daily, of which only 9% is recycled (Grajales, 2018). The PNUD as part of the efforts to achieve a reduction in the consumption of single-use plastics, created the initiative called “Estrategia Nacional para la Sustitución de Plásticos de un solo uso por alternativas renovables y compostables” which consists of a commitment assumed by the signer ( public, private or civil entity to reduce or eliminate the consumption of single-use plastics. To measure the success of a guideline or strategy, it is not enough to rely on parameters of the number of people or organizations that have signed a commitment, therefore, It is important to know the behavior that people have regarding their consumption habits, knowledge of the subject, among others. Through this work we will analyze the habits of consumption of single-use plastics, as well as the knowledge and use of renewable and compostable substitutes, which the inhabitants of Desamparados have as a reference. |
